Gaudy Welsh adorned the much loved Welsh Dressers in cottages and farmhouses, and even today this is still the best way to display the wares. The items have a very high white porcelain translucency,quite beautiful.It is also possible that the Ynysmedw pottery may also have made limited quantities of it, as new evidence emerges about this little known pottery in the Swansea Valley.The people of Wales, that is the working class, preferred the name of Swansea Cottage, and this term is still used today to describe Gaudy Welsh throughout the Principality, especially by the older generations of Welsh people.However the late Gaudy Welsh always has the manufacturer's name on the items, as opposed to the early wares which were 95% unmarked. I truly love it and am so grateful you took a chance on Florida again. The lid has no damage,so it has been well looked after over the years.
